The schhol building in the background housed Madison's High School from 1873 until 1906. A new building opened at the same location in 1908. (Classes met in various downtown locations in the interim.) The school was renamed Central High after East High school opened in 1922. The site is currently a parking lot for Madison area Technical College, but the Wisconsin Avenue entrance archway of the 1908 structure remains. |
