The four sculptured groups by Karl Bitter, including "Faith," were installed beneath the dome in 1913. Inspired by Attic sculpture the artist had seen in Greece, the groups were not designed to be free-standing pieces of sculpture but fully integrated architectural adornment and were carved from the same white granite used for the Capitol itself. |
