ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Janet "Jessie" Nimmo Drew was the daughter of Dr. John Nimmo (1779 - 1827, physician in Glasgow) and Mary Nimmo (whose maiden name was Gladstone). Dr. John Nimmo's father was William Nimmo, a surgeon (in Scotland at this time a surgeon was a medical practitioner, not considered to meet the higher standards expected of a physician, and not entitled to the title Doctor) in Kirkintilloch, Scotland. Dr. John Nimmo's mother's maiden name was Janet Hamilton. Dr. John Nimmo features in a book by S. G. Checkland: The Gladstones. A Family Biography, 1764-1851 (Cambridge University Press, 1971), page 53 and others; Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 72-134611; ISBN 0 521 079667. Janet "Jessie" Nimmo Drew's mother, Mary Gladstone Nimmo, was the daughter of Thomas Gladstones (1732 - 1809) and Helen Neilson Gladstones (1739 - 1806). One of Mary's siblings was Sir John Gladstone (1764 - 1851), who was the father of William Ewart Gladstone (1809 - 1898), who served several times longer as the Prime Minister of Great Britain than any other PM. So William Ewart Gladstone was Janet "Jessie" Nimmo Drew's first cousin, no small distinction in the mid 19th century. Janet "Jessie" Nimmo Drew married James Drew July 25, 1835, in Glasgow, Scotland. Source: Registrar General for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh, Glasgow Marriages, ref. OPR.644.1/41, frame 7185. (Janet "Jessie" Nimmo Drew's place of residence in this document is illegible in the microfilm copy of this register, although it may be Barmuir, or possibly Barhead.) Janet "Jessie" Nimmo Drew was the sister of Dr. William Nimmo, Helen Nimmo, Thomas Nimmo, Ann Nimmo, John Nimmo and Murray Nimmo.
