Original caption reads: "Scale model of the McCormick wire binder of 1882. This represents a machine developed by adding a wire binding device to the Marsh harvester. It was soon replaced by the twine binder on account of the damage caused to livestock by the ingestion of bits of wire from this machine. Part of the McCormick Historical Association Collections received by the State Historical Society in November, 1951." Image was likely taken for a series of feature stories on McCormick models published in the Wisconsin State Journal, Dec. 12, 1952 to Feb. 1, 1953. |
