Several days before the Berlin Blockade was to be lifted, Russian authorities permitted this West Berlin couple to purchase potatoes in the eastern sector. Bombed buildings line the street, and piles of bricks and debris litter the sidewalks and spill into the street. The press service caption fails to indicate the reason for the exception. The blockade formally ended on May 11. |
