The third Wisconsin State Capitol (the second in Madison), from Governor Farwell's Octagon House, probably early in 1862. Also visible in the downtown are the Dane County Courthouse and St. Raphael Catholic Church. Frederick A. Sprecher's brewery (later Fauerbach's) is in the middle ground on the left. The foreground provides a glimpse into many backyards. |
