Anna Gourlay

Sixth plate ferrotype/tintype portrait of Anna Martin Gourlay (1858-1864). She is seated, facing forward, wearing a short-sleeved dress, and holding a doll in her right arm. Hand coloring on dress neckline and sleeves. Gold details applied to necklace. Annie was born April 7, 1858 in Glens Falls (Warren Co.), New York, the daughter of Andrew Gourlay (1785-1866), a tailor, and Jane Jack (1815-1899). Annie died in Glens Falls on November 24, 1864. She was buried at Glens Falls Cemetery. Photo taken by "Conkey" on January 5, 1864. Conkey was probably George W. Conkey (1837-1910), who was born in New York City, and in 1861 came to Glens Falls, where he opened a photography studio and gallery. |
