Farmer with Self Binder

Farmer with Self Binder | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
Charles F. Nitz is operating a McCormick grain binder, drawn by three horses through a field. The original caption reads: "The oldest self binder in Cuming County, Neb., is owned by a good old farmer named Charles Nitz. It is of McCormick make and is now working on its seventeenth consecutive harvest. Owing to the good care it has received all these years and to the excellent workmanship in the beginning it is said that it has never cost a cent for repairs. This is a statement hard to believe but it must be taken on faith in this instance. This ancient and honorable curiosity was photographed by William Mathiesen, the well-known West Point, Neb., retailer, the other day and a picture of it now adors (<i>sic</i>) his office."
