Wisconsin Billboard

A movable billboard aimed at passing motorists along State Highway 20 in Illinois. It reads "Relax in Wisconsin, Where Friends and Nature Meet." Although tourists traveled to Wisconsin by train during the nineteenth century, the advent of personal automobiles greatly expanded the tourist sector of the economy. This billboard was sponsored by Wisconsin's Conservation Department which was then responsible for state tourism promotion. |
