Looking North from Reed Street
Image drawn by Franz Hölzlhuber of early Milwaukee settlement with a horse-drawn carriage, as well as industry and a railroad. The text on the image reads: "As foreign nations saw us — this sketch of Milwaukee appeared in the widely circulated Leipziger Illustrierte Zeitung in 1860. It was made looking north from the vicinity of Reed st. [sic] and the building at the left is said to be one of the city's first breweries. The original is owned by Paul Hoff, Milwaukee." |

The original sketch by Franz Holzlhuber appeared as an engraving in Leipzig's Illustrierte Zeitung, in the December 8, 1860 issue, page 404-405. This view is probably from the Milwaukee Journal photogravure section.
