ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This image is from a collection of photographs taken by Alan Born, a former jeweler and photographer from Ashland, Wisconsin. The negatives and photographs are of resorts, nature, and recreational activities in northern Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Born's father, Elias, got him his start in photography, and Alan began making postcards from his photographs during the Depression era when his jewelry business was in decline.

In April of 1934, the John Dillinger gang is rumored to have needed a place to hide out. One of them suggested the Little Bohemia summer resort in northern Wisconsin. The lodge had been built a few years earlier by Emil Wanatka, an emigrant of Bohemia, who had become friendly with bootleggers and gangsters during Prohibition.
