Shirtless Joe
Marine captain Joseph R. McCarthy, looking fit, somewhere in the South Pacific. Health was an increasing problem for McCarthy as senator. He was subject to chronic sinus infections and severe headaches. The public was unaware of his problem with alcohol, an addiction that contributed to his early death at age 49 in 1957. |
