Second Ward Savings Bank

Second Ward Savings Bank building (now the Milwaukee County Historical Society), looking northwest from the corner of W. Kilbourn Avenue and N. Plankinton Avenue. The Republican Hotel is in the background at 343 Third Street. In addition there are automobiles, horse-drawn vehicles, and pedestrians. This bank building was designed by the architectural firm of Kirchhoff and Rose. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it was originally constructed in 1913 as the Second Ward Savings Bank. The Milwaukee County Historical Society moved into the building in 1965, and opened its first exhibition the following year.
