McCarthy Campaign Brochure

Campaign brochure issued in behalf of Senator Joseph R. McCarthy during his successful campaign for the U.S. Senate in 1944. The text stressed his status as a Marine officer among his qualifications for office. McCarthy was defeated in the primary by Senator Alexander Wiley who was reelected in the general election. McCarthy continued to play on his status as a Marine officer throughout his career. In 1952 he was introduced to the Republican convention as the "fighting Marine" from Wisconsin and he was escorted to the podium to the Marine Hymn. |
