| This image is part of the Gerhard A. Gesell collection. Gerhard Gesell (1845-1906) began his photographic career in Reads Landing, Minnesota. He moved across the Mississippi River, to Alma, Wisconsin, in 1876 where he remained until his death. He earned a reputation for his portraits of townspeople and members of the German immigrant community. His photographs include images of daily life in this community along the Mississippi River. The image appeared in the Septmenber section of the 1992 Wisconsin Historical Calendar. |
