From a collection of photographs made by David Frances Barry (1854-1934) primarily of Native Americans, whaleback ships, and Superior, Wisconsin. Between 1878 and 1883, Barry traveled throughout the Dakota Territory and photographed famous Native American chiefs, warriors, scouts, and women including Sitting Bull, Gall, and Red Cloud. In 1890 Barry moved to Superior, Wisconsin and opened a photographic studio and gallery dealing in his Dakota Territory photographs. |
