Girl's Cotton Dress
Ivory check-woven cotton; machine-sewn; slightly dropped waistline; straight, unfitted bodice; knee-length skirt, gathered into waistline; full puffed sleeves, gathered into tops of shoudlers as well as fitted cuffs; fitted neckline with large Peter Pan-style collar; 10 vertical pleats down front and back of bodice, 2 additional rows of machine-embroidered eyelet with scalloped edges added down front; machine-embroidered tape with ivory feather stitching covers waist seam; matching machine-embroidery edges collar as well as the machine-tape; cuffs finished by a row of tape, followed by a narrow pleat, another row of tape, and a row of eyelet; 4 horizontal pleats taken above hem of skirt, starting 3" up from the bottom; center back opening, open to waist seam, closes with 5 large off-white crochet-covered buttons. |

Possibly used by one or both surviving daughters of Fred Mason Brown and Annie Storer Brown, though the date of the garment would seem too late to have been worn by them according to their ages; Mary B. Brown (Mrs. Arthur Shiverick), 1890-1982, and Eleanore Brown Haydon McGowan (1892-1992) . The donor, Mrs. Annie Brown, left no mention of the owner, unlike the majority of the garments she donated. |
