Photograph taken for International Harvester's Agricultural Extension Department. The original photograph caption reads: "W.L. Trammell, Route 2, Pratt City, hauling home two bales of alfalfa grown in Oklahoma, which cost him $1.50 hundred pounds, retail. He has 30 acres of land and owns five cows and one mule, but has to buy feed in small quanities to carry the stock through until nature is kind to him and furnishes new grass. If he had sown winter oats in the cotton field when laying the crop by, he would have had a considerable winter pasture at home for his stock, which would have reduced the amount of alfalfa required and also saved hauling the additional alfalfa several miles from town, which would have been appreciated by the mule, any way, judging from its appearance." |
