Kimberly, Clark, & Company Paper Mills
Paper mill, built in 1865-66 and called the Neenah Paper Mill; it was run by a stock copany composed of Nathan Cobb, president; Hiram Smith, secretary and treasurer; Dr. Nathaniel S. Robinson, manager; Edward Smith; John Jamison and Moses Hooper. After the third year of operation, D.C. Van Ostrand purchased interest in it, and he and Hiram Smith rented the mill, calling it Smith & Van Ostrand. Eventually they were able to purchase the rest of the stock and became sole owners. In 1874 Kimberly, Clark & Company bought the mill and incorporated it into their enterprise. Caption reads: "River View, Neenah, Wis." |
