Manessa Berthier Erskine was born in 1819 in Royalston, Massachusetts. He moved to Racine in 1852 and obtained employment in the threshing-machine works of Jerome I. Case. He became a partner in J. I. Case & Co. and served as superintendent and vice-president. He also held executive positions with other businesses and banking establishments. A Republican, he was mayor of Racine (1869-1871, 1880), and held other city and county offices. His home was located on the northwest corner of Main and 11th Streets. Erskine died in 1894. |
