Testing New Equipment
This photograph from the Wisconsin Highway Commission records is unidentified, but a few internal details helps to understand the content. The Wisconsin license plate on the automobile bears a 1922 date as well as a Wauwatosa identification. The Wauwatosa locale is confirmed by the billboards erected by the Cream City Bill Posting Company. The man driving the grading machine is obviously too well-dressed to be its regular operator. It is likely the regular operator is the man watching at the right, none too happy, while his supervisor, who had arrived in the car parked nearby, is testing a new piece of equipment. At this time Milwaukee County was famous for its concrete roads. |
