Mrs. Nathaniel Dean

Mrs. Nathaniel Dean | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
Full-length carte-de-visite portrait of Harriet Morrison Dean, the wife of Nathaniel Dean of Madison. Mrs. Dean was born in Dodgeville in 1829, moved to Madison in 1839, and married in 1847. It is likely this photograph was taken about 1860, the year in which her father, Wisconsin pioneer James Morrison, committed suicide, for she is in mourning dress. Her only child died in 1851 and her husband died in 1880. She moved to California and died there in 1900. The image is copied from a Lucius Fairchild family carte-de-visite album to whom she was also related by marriage.
