Vinnie Ream Hoxie

Head and shoulders portrait of Vinnie Ream Hoxie, Wisconsin sculptor. The only sculptor for whom Lincoln posed, Ream received the controversial commission to create a sculpture of the slain president for the U.S. Capitol in 1866. Shortly after her death, her husband donated her sculpture "The West" to the state, and the Capitol Commission placed it in the Capitol. |
