Photograph of Lucius Fairchild of the 2nd Wisconsin made by Mathew Brady in Washington, D.C. about three months after the Battle of Gettysburg. Severely wounded during the battle, Fairchild was briefly captured, but paroled by the Confederates. Clearly still recovering from the amputation of his left arm, Fairchild went to Washington in October, 1863 to receive his promotion to brigadier general and to resign from the Army to run for political office in Wisconsin.
DESCRIPTION
Photograph of Lucius Fairchild of the 2nd Wisconsin made by Mathew Brady in Washington, D.C. about three months after the Battle of Gettysburg.
