Truman, Rennebohm, Thompson
President Harry Truman, Governor Oscar Rennebohm, and Senator Carl Thompson of Stoughton riding in the back of an open car during a Presidential visit to Madison in 1948. Although active in charitable work and in professional organizations, Rennebohm, the wealthy founder of Rennebohm Drug Stores, Inc., had little experience in politics when he was elected lieutenant governor in 1944. Rennbohm became governor when Governor Goodland died in office in 1947. |
