Allis Chalmers Strike Parade

Striking Allis Chalmbers workers and CIO supporters on parade in 1946. In later years it was common suggested that the Communist-dominated Milwaukee CIO had contributed to the election of Senator Joseph R. McCarthy because of their opposition to Senator Robert La Follette's anti-Communist stance. This historical irony is now generally discounted by McCarthy biographers. |
