Mrs. William S. Strong
Waist-up oval portrait Adeline Irwin (Mrs. William S.) Strong was the daughter of Robert Irwin. Her first husband, David Blish, died in the 1847 fire on the Phoenix, a Great Lakes propeller ship. She was born in Green Bay on August 2, 1823. Her older sister, Mary, was born 18 July 1821, also in Green Bay, making her the first white woman born to Wisconsin settlers. The Strongs resided mainly in Kenosha. Adeline died 20 October 1874 and her husband died 1 November 1888. |
