Burning Building and Volunteer Fire Fighters
Volunteer fire fighters prepare to put out a fire on a roof. The fire company's hose cart is the vehicle with two large wheels which was attached to any available horse-drawn vehicle, in this case a flatbed delivery wagon. This was pulled to the hydrant nearest the fire, where the hose was attached and then pulled to the fire, the hose unwinding as they went. The first team to show up for this duty after hearing an alarm received a payment of two dollars. |
