Ashburn Family
The Ashburn family sits around a table in their yard. Behind them is a frame house with plants on its porch, curtains visible in its windows, and a pump by its side. Left to right: Jacob Larsen, Ole Ashburn, Daniel Skare (brother of Ole Ashburn), Julia Larsen Ashburn (daughter of Jacob and wife of Ole) and Anna Larsen (stepmother of Julia and second wife of Jacob). Lived NW 1/4 or SW 1/4 Section 36, Town of Clinton, Rock County, 1/2 mile north of the Illinois border in Jefferson Prairie area. In this photograph, Daniel Skare is visiting U.S. from Norway. He didn't immigrate until 1880. Then he attended Beloit Seminary in Iowa and became a minister. Ole and Julia were married about this time, late June, 1877. |
