Photograph
College Hill from Downtown

John S. Fuller made this photograph of the three University buildings on Bascom Hill (then known as College Hill) from the Capitol roof about 1860. Grace Episcopal Church, at the intersection of Carroll Street and West Washington Avenue, is prominent on the lower left. Today, it is one of only two buildings facing that Capitol Square that date from the 1850s. The foliage in the foreground documents the dense park that surrounded the Capitol. |
