Library Reading Room

A view of the Library Reading Room in 1955, after the modernization of the 1950s was complete. Most prominent is the division of the room into functional areas: bound newspaper were read on stands in the area to the right; the west wall was lined with cubicles for microfilm reading; a new centralized circulation/reference desk stood has been moved into the room near the columns; and behind the card catalog were only a few of the original mahogany tables. Out of the frame to the left was a reading area with comfortable chairs. Other changes included modern furniture and acoustical tile and fluorescent lighting in the ceiling. |
