The second Capitol was 54'x104'; See Image ID: 23644 for comparison. Fire hydrants, including the eight around the Capitol, are shown in red. At the time of the fire in 1904 the Capitol received its water supply from a reservoir at the University, with city water used only for backup. On the day before the 1904 fire the University had drained its reservoir for cleaning without notifying state officials. By the time anyone thought to turn on the city's backup the fire was out of control. |
