Flooded Road in Rural Alabama
Two men traveling in a horse-drawn wagon on a flooded rural road. Original caption reads: "Example of road building in Lamar County on the Vernon-Columbus road. For more than one-quarter of a mile the main road is made a drainage ditch for the surrounding territory. As the land on either side is not very valuable, being grown up to brush and weeds, there is no very good reason why the road should be at the bottom of the lake, although it seems to have been constructed that way. C.C. Hudson, in wagon, the trip from W.O. Pennington's to Mt. Pleasant School, February 13, 1915." |
