Patron James Lutz notes this regarding the location information on this map: "The Topliff House (number 4) is not in the attributed location. The Topliff House was originally a boarding house on North Main Street, later becoming Draper Hall. Dyer Topliff was owner of Topliff boarding house, then sold it to Draper in 1869. When the map was supposedly drawn in 1870, it was probably still called Topliff House after Draper bought it in 1869 and later established it as a grand hotel. The building was located between numbers 13 and 1 and was most likely the second building to the south of the schoolhouse (#1)which is quite a distance from the lithographer's location." |
