Historical Museum
Text on front reads: "Historical Museum, Erected as the First Church in 1858. Stoughton, Wisconsin." Handwritten on reverse: "Look this [??]t history of Stoughton. This was a Universalist Church before it became a museum. It was organized May 16-1858 with 34 members. Luke Stoughton donated the south half of 2 lots." The Stoughton Universalist Church was built in 1858 of cream brick in the Greek Revival style. It is now the Stoughton Historical Museum. The Stoughton Historical Society was incorporated as an affiliate of the State Historical Society June 21, 1960. At that time they took possession of the building. |
