Holy Family Hospital, Ward
View of the men's first floor ward. Two bearded men are sitting on rocking chairs, dressed in street clothes and holding canes. A man is lying in a bed on the left, and a Sister is sitting beside the bed of another patient on the right. Furnishings include cast-iron beds, wooden spindle-back chairs and bedside stands. Large windows have dark shades and tiered lower curtains. Window sills hold plants, and a potted fern is on a linen-covered stand in the center of the room. Hanging from the ceiling are two electric lights with ruffled-edge opaque glass shades. Hardwood flooring appears to have a central parquet design. Ward patients were charged $1 per day, which covered board and nursing, only. Charity patients were cared for free of charge. |
