Wisconsin State Capitol "Resources of Wisconsin" Mural

Wisconsin State Capitol "Resources of Wisconsin" Mural | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
Three men are posing in front of the "Resources of Wisconsin" mural.

The only room in New York City with proper lighting and space large enough for Edwin Blashfield, the artist, and helpers to work on a 34 foot painting was the Vanderbilt Gallery in the Fine Arts building.

When the mural was finished, it was cut, with the paint still fresh, Grandmother said, into sections. Then they were rolled up, placed in boxes and sent to Wisconsin. Here the pieces were spread out and allowed to dry. Then they were re-rolled, put in heavy burlap bags, re-crated and stored in the corridors of the capitol until they could be installed.

When that time came, a scaffold was erected, and Blashfield’s assistants came to Wisconsin to supervise the installation, touch up the seams and put a coat of wax on the decoration.
