Herring-Curtiss Flying Machine
Advertising card from an exhibition of the Herring-Curtiss "Golden Flyer" in which Glenn Curtiss had won the first Gordon Bennett trophy at Rheims. The exhibit took place at the John Wanamaker Department Store in Philadelphia. A reproduction of this card appears in the papers of Arthur P. Warner, Wisconsin's first aviator. Warner became acquainted with Herring in New York and through him met Glenn Curtiss from whom he later purchased an airplane, the first purchase of an airplane by a private individual. The business partnership between Curtiss and Herring was a brief collaboration. |
