Two Shoemakers
Carte-de-visite with a photograph of a painting by James R. Stuart. It depicts two white-haired, bearded shoemakers, with Langford on the left and his partner on the right. They are sitting on workbenches in front of a window with numerous flower pots. Each man is wearing an apron, and white shirts with rolled up sleeves. They are looking down at their work. There are boots and tools scattered on the floor in the foreground. On the right wall, next to the window, are shelves full of footwear. Stanley Hanks has annotated the verso of the photograph: "Given me by H.E. Shaw. The shop was at 17 N. Pinckney." In a separate hand is the notation: "For W. DeLamaytn." The date 10/25/40 refers to the date Stanley Hanks acquired the photograph. |
