The State Bank, on Pinckney St and E. Washington, was built in 1882 to replace the original bank built in 1852. Lucien S. Hanks was the president of the State Bank from 1890 until about 1925. This view, from across the street, shows his son Stanley C. Hanks' law office, Buell and Hanks, on the second floor, left side. On the right are two other law offices.
DESCRIPTION
The State Bank, on Pinckney St and E. Washington, was built in 1882 to replace the original bank built in 1852. Lucien S. Hanks was the president of the State Bank from 1890 until about 1925. The verso of the photograph has a handwritten note by Stanley Hanks: "Built about 1882 — my law office (Buell and Hanks) on 2nd floor. My private office the large window at extreme left — S.C. H. This building razed 1931 and built into stores. Bank merged with Bank of Wisconsin. Known as State Bank of Wisconsin. Later bought by Bankshares of Milwaukee.
