Woman and Girls in McCormick Works' Garden

Mother and her two daughters posing near a version of International Harvester's logo at the McCormick Works community garden. The garden was one of several factory gardens created under International Harvester's "garden project." The gardens were intended to aid unemployed and underemployed workers from the company's factories. Employees with at least five years service were eligible for garden plots. The McCormick Works community gardens were located near 95th street and Crawford Avenue, and consisted of approximately 440 acres divided into 50 by 150 feet plots. The gardens were utilized by over 1,800 employees.
