The railroad was completed Milwaukee to Watertown, a distance of forty-three miles. Need for further capitol to complete the remaining thirty-four miles of rail to Madison was a problem. City businessmen schemed to sell shares of Watertown and Madison stock and raised almost $200,000 for the completion of the line. Other directors of the railroad line include former Governor Leonard Farwell, B. F. Hopkins, head of Madison Gas and Light Company, Nathaniel W. Dean and H.K. Lawrence. |
