International Truck in Bonneville Salt Flats Marsh
International truck making its way through the Salduro Marsh of the Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover on the Utah-Nevada border. The original caption reads in part: "In the raw state the potash occurs as a brine found in the clay stratum underlying the Bonneville Flats. Solar evaporation in numerous drying ponds produces a mixture of crystalline sodium and potassium salts which are separated by flotation in the plant of Bonneville, Ltd., near Wendover...To obtain the brine, Bonneville, Ltd., had dug some forty miles of ditches, fifteen feet deep, into which the brine seeps from the pores of the clay stratum that underlies the salt flats. From the distributing ditches the brine is lifted to drying ponds." |
