Warner and Speedometer
Portrait of Arthur Pratt Warner of Beloit, Wisconsin, about 1950, with a model of his first speedometer. Even today, most automobiles are equipped with speedometers based on Warner's general design. In addition to the speedometer, Warner held over 100 patents. He was also the first person from Wisconsin to fly a heavier-than-air aircraft (1909) and the first private individual to purchase an airplane. |
