ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Although less known than either Curtiss or the Wright Brothers, Thomas A. Baldwin was an important figure in the early days of aviation. His "Red Devil" planes, so called because all of their wooden parts were painted red, were primarily used for exhibition. Baldwin was also the designer of the first dirigible purchased by the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
