Insect Christmas Card
A hand-made Christmas card created by Marshall Hertig, an entomologist. It features a photograph of Phlebotomus Verrucarum (at a magnification of 13.5), a sand fly that can transmit Verruga peruana, a disease. The photograph is glued to a card inside of a hand drawn border. Handwritten on the card is "Phlebotomus Verrucarum x13.5, Lima, Dec. 21, 1940. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, together with echoes of the verruga zone. Marshall Hertig." The card was probably sent to Arthur Joseph Altmeyer. |
