On the cover is a gold shield with a silver star on which is printed "Forty Rounds U.S." suspended from an arrow. An acorn hangs from the bottom of the shield. The back cover displays two crossed thirteen-star American flags, on which are printed Civil War sites: Donelson, Shiloh, Stone River, Chattanooga, Nashville, Vicksburg, Atlanta, Knoxville, Chicamauga (Chickamauga?), and Bentonville. A laurel wreath is superimposed on the flags. Above the flags, a figure stands beside a grouping of tents; below, a cannon is positioned in front of another tent.
