Of particular interest in this photograph are Beachey and Martin. Lincoln Beachey, who learned to fly at the Curtiss school in 1910, went on to become the best known exhibition pilot of his time. Beachey always flew in a suit, but here he is not wearing his trademark, a checkered cap. In tribute to him, many early aviators wore similar hats. Glenn Martin, who was visiting from the San Ana aviation school became a leading manufacturer of military aircraft. |
