The Wisconsin History Makers Tour will bring history directly to local communities in every region of the state through pop-up exhibits, object displays, public programs, outdoor installations, and other activities.
Wisconsinites are not the sort who take things sitting down. Our long and robust history of public participation bears that out. Our causes are as diverse as our population – from fair housing demonstrations in Milwaukee to the Obreros Unidos marches that began in Wautoma to Pride Parades throughout the state. The contribution of Vel R. Phillips, the first woman and first African American to be elected Secretary of State, is particularly inspiring. Learn more about her years of service to Wisconsin, and the causes our citizens have championed, through the images, activities, and objects here on display!
