Join fellow northern Wisconsin book lovers and amateur historians in an engaging discussion on the book "Vintage Wisconsin Gardens: A History of Home Gardening" by Lee Somerville.
This book explores vernacular gardens, which are everyday gardens of ordinary people, of the 19th and early 20th centuries in Wisconsin. Using Wisconsin State Horticultural Society archived articles, Somerville brings to life historic landscape design, plant choices, and gardens in both rural and urban areas. It’s filled with beautiful pictures, recommended plant lists, and garden layouts.
Participants will need access to a copy of the book, an internet connection, and a computer or smartphone to fully participate in our discussion. Registered book club participants can get a 20% discount on the book if they order through the Society. That coupon code will be e-mailed to participants once they have registered.
This event is hosted by Liz Arbuckle, the northern Wisconsin Education Outreach specialist for the Wisconsin Historical Society. Prior to the webinar, Liz will send the virtual meeting link and some reflection questions to encourage a lively conversation.
This program is free, but advance registration is required. To register, or if you have any questions, please send an e-mail with your name and the area you live to liz.wabindato@wisconsinhistory.org
